The Friends of the Historic Commons exists to celebrate, preserve, protect, and enhance the development of the structures, landscapes, historic vision, and cultural significance of the former home of the Traverse City State Hospital.

We’re dedicated to celebrating and preserving the

  • beautiful grounds and woodlands

  • historic buildings, and

  • the vision and cultural significance

of the entire campus of the former Traverse City State Hospital (the Northern Michigan Asylum.)

Beauty is therapy.
